Maria
Montessori wrote, The successive levels of education
must conform to the successive personalities of the child. The elementary program expands upon the principles that began
in the primary program. At this level, your child is ready to
learn abstract principles. Children do not learn by rote memorisation,
but rather by cognitive and sensorial means.
An
inviting classroom atmosphere allows the child to experience
the joy of learning and help them gain an understanding of self,
develop sensitivity to others and master the tools and skills
needed to pursue knowledge independently.
Elementary
curriculum should combine physical and emotional development
with the academic disciplines:
- Language,
Reading and Writing
- Mathematics
- Social
Studies
- Foreign
Language
- Geometry
- Science
- Arts
and Literature
- Music
- Geography
- History
- Physical
