What
is Montessorian World Education & Training? |
Becoming
Montessorian
'The training of the teacher who is to help life is something
far more than
the learning of ideas.
It includes the training of character; it is a preparation
of the spirit.'
|
The
secret of
good teaching
is to regard the
child's intelligence
as a fertile field in
which seeds may be sown,
to grow under the heat of flaming
imagination.
Our aim is not only to make the child understand,
and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch
his
imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core. We
do not want
complacent pupils, but eager ones. We seek to sow life
in the child rather than theories,
to help him in his
growth, mental and
emotional as well as physical,
and for that we must offer grand and lofty ideas to the
human mind.

 Montessorian
teachers are trained how to teach children to read, write,
and do maths in a Montessorian prepared environment. They
are taught how to help children become independent, responsible,
self-disciplined and co-operative. The teachers are shown
how to teach children practical skills, various subject
areas; sciences such as botany and zoology ; the social
sciences of history and geography; and such arts as creativity
& handicrafts, music, dance and drama. The teachers
are also taught special techniques and the use of materials
for helping the child's physical and psychological development. |
|
|
"Education
must not be understood in the sense of teaching
but of assisting the psychological development of the
child and
should no longer be mostly imparting of knowledge,
but must take a new path, seeking the release of human
potentialities
in a natural process which develops spontaneously."

 Montessorian
teachers are trained through careful demonstration and
the use of specially designed tools and equipment. The
Montessori curriculum is organised around specific teaching
materials which will assist in the development of the
children's basic capacities such as control over movement
and senses of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Each
curriculum area is taught to teacher trainees by demonstration
of the presentation and use of each curriculum material
in sequence. Students then practice the techniques they
have seen demonstrated until they have mastered the material
well enough to use it with the children.

"
If education is always to be conceived along the same
antiquated lines
of a mere transmission of knowledge,
there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of
man's future.
For what is the use of transmitting knowledge
if the individual's total development lags behind ?"

 Teacher
trainees absorb an understanding of children development
through observation, and explanation of the practice they
see demonstrated. Theoretical aspects of children education
is provided through a tutorial programme of guided readings,
lessons, and assignments. In this way, teacher trainees
learn the use of specific materials and techniques for helping
children learn and develop. At the same time they develop
a theory of learning, curriculum development, application
and teaching while on the programme. The teacher traineers
need to prepare themselves well with the right character
first than of the child. |
